Donnelly Experience Stands Out in Debate
(Jefferson City) - When all was said and done at the UMKC/CCP debate Thursday evening between Rep. Margaret Donnelly D-Richmond Heights, Rep. Jeff Harris D-Columbia, and State Senator Chris Koster D-Harrisonville, Donnelly was the clear cut winner of the debate. Her experience as a lawyer protecting children and families, her history of working in local government, and her familiarity with the budget through her work on the budget committee make her the perfect candidate.
On her qualifications: She commented, "The attorney general's office is a place where law and policy intersect. When I talk about ‘protecting families' it isn't just a catch phrase, it is what I did day in and day out in my law practice. Voters will know I have a record of fighting for them. Serving on the boards of two local government agencies, a large school board, and on a public transit system I have overseen budgets and staff larger than the Attorney General's office. From my work on the budget committee in the legislature I know the workings of the departments represented by the attorney general better than anyone in the race. This all makes me uniquely qualified to put our democratic values into action."
When asked about Koster's party switching Donnelly said, "I think the voters should just look at our records. Senator Koster supported the immoral slashing of one hundred eighty thousand of Missouri's most vulnerable off Medicaid. He supported disenfranchising thousands of seniors, disabled, and others with an unnecessary voter ID bill. He also voted to undermine public education at all levels. He doesn't stand up for our Democratic values. I will put my record up against his any day".
